ABA US Nationals Lemoore, CA April 28-30
Round 9 of the ABA pro national series took place this weekend, and mother nature finally decided to be nice for a California race, as it was nice and sunny all weekend. The past few races have shown some major changes for AA pro racing, as riders have been winning that have been clipped in with SPD pedals. After last week's national in Florida, almost all of the AA pros have switched to SPD's and this was the first time that the entire AA main (Saturday) was clipped in. Is it the difference, well take a look at the results of the Double A Marketing pros in attendance, and you make the call. Matt Hadan is always a guy to watch, and now as he is affectionally know as "the California Kid," was Supercharged in Lemoore. On Saturday, Matt mastered the track and put a stronghold on the AA class as he was the big winner in AA Pro. As if that wasn't enough, Matt also placed 2nd in Pro open. On Sunday, the Master was in all 3 pro mains, and finished 7th in AA, 3rd in Open, and 7th in Pro Cruiser. Thomas Allier has been on a tear lately and Sunday was just another example of it, as French Vanilla won both AA pro and Pro Open. On Saturday, Thomas placed 1st in pro open and 5th in AA pro, making it one great weekend for him. Wade Bootes has had an incredible season so far, and Lemoore was another stop on it. Bootes has grabbed the attention of the AA pro class after tearing up the first 3 nationals of the season this year, and Lemoore was the same, as he placed 2nd in AA pro both days. Bootes has had a great influence in the pro class by using SPD pedals and racing so well, making almost all the AA pros take the same advice and switch to SPD's! Jamie Staff kept the ball rolling with 2 3rd's in AA pro in Lemoore, keeping him in the lead of ABA pro points for the 2000 race season. Staff has been one of the biggest threats in AA pro this season, and is looking for his first ABA #1 Pro title. Warwick Stevenson is making his rookie AA pro year a great success, as he keeps up his incredible first strait away power and main event appearances. This weekend, Warwick was in the AA pro main both days placing 4th on Sunday and 8th on Saturday. Warwick also raced his reactor 24" and placed 2nd and 4th in Pro Cruiser. Greg Romero was the only pro to make the AA pro main either day who was not clipped in with SPD's. Greg rode strong in Both AA pro and Pro Open on Sunday, but crashes kept him to 8th in both classes. If there is anyone who can show that SPD's are not the only reason for going fast, it will be Greg.
