Wade Bootes wins Sea Otter Dual Slalom!
Monterey, CA March 18-19, 2000

Wade Bootes kicked off the 2000 MTB race season with a bang, as he dominated the Dual slalom from qualifying to the finish. Over the past few weeks, Wade has totally dominated the BMX world, by winning his last 4 AA pro races. Wade went into the Sea Otter still early in his training program, but has been riding strong. When first walking the dual course, Wade was pleasantly surprised, as the first and last straitaways were BMX style, as they were long and wide open.

It was apparent that Wade liked the course, as he was the #1 qualifier by 2 seconds! As the qualifying field of 32 stared to bracket up, Wade beat every competitor with ease, until he faced Kurt Vories/Specialized in the round of 8. Wade lost his one and only heat race of the day, but easily made up the time difference in the 2nd run to advance. Wade eventually went on to face Brian Lopes/Cannondale-Volvo in the final. Both Wade and Brian are known for their explosive power, and it would be a great match up. In both rounds, Wade was even with Brian until the ¾ mark of the course, where Bootes opened up and pulled away. Bootes took the victory in front of a huge crowd, and the outdoor life TV cameras.

Wade then raced the Downhill race on Sunday and once again rode extremely well, and placed 5th for the day, getting him once again on the podium. There was an all start field of Downhill riders in attendance, so this was a great accomplishment for Bootes. Wade will be gunning for his first MTB Dual title this year, as he will be doing both the UCI world Cup and Norba national series.
