Acclaim Max Sports Announces Video Game Lineup: Acclaim Expands into New Genres with BMX, Surfing, and Freestyle Motocross Games

Glen Cove, N.Y., May 8, 2000 -- Acclaim Max Sports(tm), a division of Acclaim Entertainment, Inc., a leading worldwide interactive entertainment company, today announced development of three new games geared for fans of extreme/action sports. The titles include: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX(tm) for the PlayStation® game console, Sega Dreamcast(tm), and Game Boy Color, due out in Fall 2000; Freestyle Motocross: McGrath vs. Pastrana for the PlayStation game console, to be released Fall 2000; and "Big Wave Surfing" (working title) for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system set to launch in Spring 2001.

Acclaim Max Sports is a new division of Acclaim Entertainment created to address the growing popularity of extreme/action sports. Each game in the Max Sports lineup will share a similar design focus that is based in reality, but includes elements of fantasy, allowing gamers to go beyond extreme and play without limits. The Max Sports brand embodies maximum gameplay, fun, and attitude. These games will be geared toward gamers who are interested in extreme sporting activities as well as the lifestyle these sports represent. The Max Sports brand will have its own logo and packaging to ensure recognition by gamers.

"The popularity of extreme and non-traditional sports is skyrocketing, and our customers want games that appeal to their interests, " said Steve Felsen, Brand Director, Acclaim Max Sports. "The Max Sports lineup will offer alternatives to our professional sports lineup for gamers who are looking for something different, something that allows them to go beyond extreme and experience maximum excitement. "

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX
The only game endorsed by BMX freestyle champion Dave Mirra, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX focuses the aggressive spirit and tremendous energy of BMX riding into an accessible, trick-based action game for the PlayStation game console, Sega Dreamcast, and Game Boy Color. Riders are given an open course, a set of tricks, and a bike, and the rest is up to them. The challenge: Take their rider from zero to hero in their very own freestyle BMX career. Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX also stars two-time X-Games medalist Ryan Nyquist and is due to be released in Fall 2000.

Freestyle Motocross: McGrath vs. Pastrana
In Freestyle Motcross: McGrath vs. Pastrana, it's new school versus old school as the best supercross racer of all time, Jeremy "Showtime" McGrath, takes on rookie freestyle phenom Travis Pastrana in a game where crossing the finish line first doesn't necessarily mean you'll win. Racers are scored both on their race time and the stunts they perform, which guarantees some interesting decision making. In this new game for the PlayStation game console, gamers must balance radical tricks and all out racing to take the checkered flag. Freestyle Motocross: McGrath vs. Pastrana is scheduled for release in late 2000.

"Big Wave Surfing"
Acclaim is also developing a new surfing game for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, tentatively titled "Big Wave Surfing," to be released in Spring 2001. The game will make big-wave riding and professional surf competition accessible and thrilling to both surf fans and video game players alike. In addition, "Big Wave Surfing" will capture the speed, intensity and thrill of surfing while staying true to the purity of the sport. Acclaim has signed current World Championship Tour leader and surfing champion Sunny Garcia to an exclusive agreement to appear in the game. "Big Wave Surfing" is being developed by Osiris Studios.

Dave Mirra, Ryan Nyquist, Jeremy McGrath, Travis Pastrana and Sunny Garcia are exclusive stars of Acclaim Max Sports games. These athletes work with Acclaim Max Sports as consultants to develop games that are true to their respective sports, as well as fun and approachable to gamers of all skill levels.

Acclaim Max Sports will announce more specific details on these and other upcoming games over the next several months. Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX and Freestyle Motocross: McGrath vs. Pastrana will be shown publicly for the first time at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles from May 11th-13th. In addition, Jeremy McGrath, Travis Pastrana, Dave Mirra and Ryan Nyquist will appear at Acclaim Entertainment's booth (#1124, South Hall) at E3. Jeremy McGrath and Travis Pastrana will appear on Friday, May 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by Dave Mirra and Ryan Nyquist from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. During the Mirra and Nyquist appearance, Acclaim Max Sports will host a live BMX exhibition by Dave Mirra.
