Lemoore, CA: So far this year, TORKERís MATT "DIESEL" HADAN is no stranger to the podium, as he is currently the only pro in the top-4 of points who hadnít yet won a double-A main event. With plenty of seconds and thirds, Matt finally pulled off what we all knew was coming; taking the big AA-Pro win on Saturday at ABAís U.S. Nationals. "It felt good! I didnít win in any mains, but as Iíve done all year, I stayed consistent and it paid off. Then in Pro Open, I took second behind Thomas Allier from lane 8. I was just Ďon,í on Saturday." -Matt Hadan, on his 7th career victory.

With a 4th and two 2nds in the three main events, Matt Hadan actually tied with his ex-teammate Wade Bootes, with 8 points each. The Dieselís better finish in the third main wound up giving him the overall win. It was a great win for Torker. "Iím just stoked. My Torker 5.5 is riding real good, and Iím just trying to stay consistent. Itís such a long year, and the ABA points are looking good for me. I think I will just chase ABA this year--everythingís turning out how I hoped." -Matt Hadan

The Lemoore race could not only go down in history as a turning point for Hadan, but it also marked the first time in history that the majority of double-A pros were using clipless pedals... including The Master himself, Matt. "I rode them for 3 days. Put them on as soon as I got back from Floirda. The hardest part of switching from platforms is getting used to riding in the pack, getting bumped with them. If it stays the way it is, with all these clipped-in amateurs coming in, SPDís will be the way to go. Theyíre here to stay." -Matt Hadan, on the new clipless pedal controversy

Team Torker was definitley on fire in Lemoore, as Mattís twin-top-tubed teammate, CLARENCE PERRY, stomped his comp as well. "The Earthquake" took yet another win aboard his Signature 24 inch cruiser bike, which is available in shops everywhere. Perry is currenlty leading NAG (National Age Group) points in the 36-40 cruiser catergory.

TEAM REDLINE IS PUSHING THEIR PERSONAL ENVELOPE: Could this be the new Redline motto? "If you ain't winning, then get hurt trying to win." We hope not. But at this moment, the REDLINE squad seems to be pushing the limits in their personal quests for speed and victory. After his purple-foot long distance jump, ADAM STRIEBY is back on his SUPA-X and heding to Florida for this weekend's UGP~Redline ROOTS CONTEST. In DeSoto, Texas this past weekend, JOHN PURSE sat ont he sidelines and signed autographs, letting his collarbone heal. Meanwhile, on the track, RL's super sonic 14x, BUBBA HARRIS, was feeling the need for more speed in DeSoto's rhythm section and exploded in flames.

ADAM STRIEBY JUMPS 105 FEET, 11 INCHES! ... BUT NOT ON HIS BIKE: REDLINE's jumping fool, ADAM STRIEBY, was recently one of four Evel Knievel Wannabes to be invited to a special, top-secret Long Distance Jump-Off. Along with Adam were DK's Miranda and Winkelman (on 20's) and motorcycle-jumper (on-a-cruiser) Flush Fernandez. All of the distance attempts were captured on tape for an up-coming OffSpring video, and captured on film by both SNAP and BMX PLUS! magazines. "It was the scariest moment of my life," admitted Strieby. "I went there with three options--break the record, break myself or die." On his earliest attempts, Strieby cleared 8 cars easily. "No problem," he boasted. But as he was approaching his next run at 9 cars, the wind died and ...Adam almost did, too. "I knew I was in trouble, but I waited until about 3/4 the way to abort the jump. Once I was over the landing, I let go and slammed hard." They measured Strieby's flat-bottom landing mark at 105 feet, 11 inches! His Redline Supa-X, landed even further. At first, medics on hand told Adam he'd broke his ankle; but 3 days later, once his purple feet returned to their natural color, the Cat-Flinger was back to walking and riding like normal. In the end, Fletch or Flush (or whatever his name is) wound up with the distance record of 100 feet (clearing 12 cars). Afterwards, all jumpers agreed that they'd never do a 'distance competition' ever again. "It was just too intense!" Strieby summed up.

Wade Bootes en fuego (still). Over in Desoto for this weekend's ABA National, Bootes took the AA win by dominating motos number 1 and 3. V-Dog, Steve Veltman won the second moto and finished 2nd overall. Jamie Staff is another rider who's being super consistent and finished third. Pro Open was all about Bootes again as he took the win, and John Smart took the number 2. NBL had bad weather in Florida and the races got canceled due to heavy rain after the second round of motos. Racing will continue tomorrow, as will Sunday's national as well.

Speaking of the super hot (as in racing ... if you dig his looks that's your own thing) Wade Bootes, we'll be interviewing him very shortly and will gain some insight into his training, his current success, his future in BMX and MTB, and much more. Stay tuned.

Grant Quits BMXtreme

It is rumored that he has left this project to travel with a band of hat weaving monkeys to document them and tell the word about his findings in an eBook. We wish him luck in his new venture and thank him for his years of commitment and hard work! Hans.

ABA Gator Nationals Report: We're in sunny, humid Florida just outside of Tampa for the ABA Gator Nationals. The track is super tame with nothing big and no gaps to speak of. It is also long. I heard a figure of 1,800 feet! Yes, we're exhausted. Although Florida has been hammered this week with heavy downfalls, Dade City's track operator Colin was working tons of ovetime and did a great job in making sure the conditions were superb. Strange thing about this track: it sits in the middle of a huge dug out crater, and down the starting hill, if you're in gate 8, you have a wall of dirt to content with. Just ask Adam Scott how it feels. Christophe Leveque survived all the crashes in AA and took wins in Pro Class and Open. Jamie Staff was right on his back tire all day and took second in both class and open. Jason Donnell, doing it for his new nickname "Coolwhip," took third in AA. Kevin Tomko took the third in Open Class. In A Pro, Big Daddy Eric Rupe beat out Dingo's Josh Fiegly for the overall win by one point. The riders who podiumed today are psyched because the ABA is doubleing the winnings this weekend. The ABA is hitting Florida hard and is looking to fiercely combat the NBL for this territory. What will 2001 bring? Stay tuned for more updates tomorrow.

WAR PARTY ADVANCING STILL! AC/Redman posted the single biggest factory team score of the season-- 262 points!!! -- this past weekend at the ABA Winter Nationals, creating a virtual dead heat with P-Lite for the team title. Saturday's 2nd with 241 points was no less impressive with only the track/Black Mountain locals from Gordy's/Enigma beating them out of the top spot by a mere 8 points. Of the big three or two (if you count the Firm as the one they really are)-- AC/Redman came out way on top for the weekend at one of the season's most important, benchmark races. Starting things off for AC, Redman and the gang-- AC/Redman pro woman Michelle Meandro took top podium honors Saturday and posted 2nd place points to her season on Sunday. Then, adding insult to injury for the comp, AC/Redman upped all of their Redman-Warpt riders to the factory roster and benefited immediately from Super Size Ian Stoffel's awesome 15X double-- and he did it old school style, on flat pedals! Another mover-up was Casey Hesselgrave who trounced the 12 year olds to take his Cruiser win on Saturday. Daniel Greer also scored a win in 17X on Saturday and is still doing it for the AC/Redman colors despite rumors and the comp's worst fears-- as is 13X Steven Cisar who nabbed a 1st and 2nd in class! AC/Redman's star 16X Danny Harper continues to do major battle with P-Lite's Donny Robinson in what has heated into the greatest amateur rivalry this seaon. Their dual down Black Mountain's long rhythm section literally had the crowd on their feet! Major race support for the AC/Redman team comes from Answer, Warpt, Tioga, Araya, ATI, KMC, Time, Marwi and Finish Line. Look for the AC/Redman war party to raid Desoto, TX in two weeks for the Super Nationals and Lemoore, CA at the end of April for the US Nationals.

Redline Press Release: Kent,WA: TORKERís MATT HADAN continued his consistency streak at the ABA Winternationals this past weekend, in Phoenix, Arizona. On Saturday, "Diesel" took the Pro Open win with start-to-finish domination, and then backed it up with a 4th overall in AA-pro. Hadan, who has lead Pro Points earlier this year, currently sits i n the No.5 spot of pro standings. "Iíve been working hard, training like Rocky, and itís all starting to pay off."--Matt Hadan, AA pro

Hadanís twin-top-tubed teammate, CLARENCE PERRY, also put in a stellar performance on his Signature TORKER 24; appropriately called "The Earthquake." On Saturday, the Phoenix desert shook as Clarence made an incredible comeback from getti ng cut off out of the first turn, to take a stab for the win in the final turn. Unfortunately, Clarence was carrying too much speed when he passed the leader and the only thing to stop him was running out of turn. As Perry flew over the backside of the be rm and belly-slid to the bottom, 2nd thru 4th place piled in to the wreckage while the lucky 5th place rider swerved through the carnage to snag the win. It might not have been the result Team Torker was hoping for, but it was definitely one main event ev eryone was talking about afterwards. After that big show, Sunday was a day of redemption for olí Earthquake, as he won 36-40 cruiser from wire to wire. Perry was so far out front that he was in his own zip code.

Hadan and Earthquakeís speed and consistency on the BMX track couldnít have come at a better time; as TORKER is proud to announce the World Debut of its website: Designed by Evan Moss of SBSí art department and created by of Phoenix, AZ, this new Torker site features pages on the complete 2000 line of Torker Bicycles and Parts, as well as Team pics and bios that will be updated frequently. For month s to come, bookmark and check it out often, as the place to find out everything you need to know about the Torker team members, their bikes and the equipment they use.

Nirve Sports, the first lifestyle sports brand to deliver premium products and entertainment direct-to-consumer via the Web, announced today the addition of BMX pro Cristian Becerine to its elite team of competitors. The Nirve team is the first ever to feature both professionals and amateurs in such a wide variety of disciplines as BMX racing, freestyle biking, skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, and wakeboarding.

Becerine, who is 22 years old and a resident of Huntington Beach, CA is an Argentinean native. In 1999 Becerine garnered first place A pro finishes at the NBL Grand Nationals, ABA Grand Nationals, and other races. His current status as a first year AA pro, nine-time Argentinean Champion, and three-time South American Champion is why he is being touted as one of the hottest up and coming pros racing today.

"There is no doubt about it, this young man is the future of BMX," stated Nirve VP of Sports Marketing Doug Martin. "Cristian's youth, explosive energy, and ambition are all reasons that drew us to him. Nirve is building a team filled with high-energy, young talent that will grow with us and Cristian exemplifies all elements of this strategy."

"I'm very proud and excited to have been picked up by Nirve," said Becerine. "The program they're putting together is first class, and I know by having Dale [Holmes] as a teammate and Gary [Ellis] as a manager, I'm in very good company."

The Chiba Glove Company is set to begin operations at its new 50,000 Sq. Ft factory in March. This addition to the 147-year-old German glove manufacturer's 50,000 Sq. Ft. existing factory in Semerang, Indonesia, will dramatically increase production capacity to 100,000 square feet. "Several of the new features we have added to our cycling line, like our Quick Pull System and our Digital Carbon Fiber palms, have increased sales dramatically. We are increasing our production capacity in order to meet this demand as well as meeting the demands for all of the private label work we have contracts for worldwide." According to a Global Sports Group Inc. press release.

The Chiba Glove Company plans to grow in the cycling markets as well as several other markets. This new additional factory is a serious sign of their intentions. "One advantage we have as a glove manufacturer is the ability to go where our cycling competition cannot. All of the growth we experience outside of the cycling industry, will help us find new innovative materials we can bring back into our cycling line. This will allow us to have the most advanced cycling products on the market."

Since Chiba's Police Cycling gloves are selling so well, Chiba is expanding product markets in both law enforcement and fire protection in the United States. The factory expansion should help Chiba meet their increased demands in all markets. Chiba has room to build another 50,000 square foot facility on the new factory site if demands warrant it. The Chiba Glove Company is Europe's largest producer of cycling gloves and one of the largest producers of gloves worldwide.

Redline Hooks Up with Top Caliber Bike Shop Teams All Across the Country. Click here for the full story. In other Redline news, Bubba Harris has fractured his arm. Bubba, who has gone 2 years without an injury, busted it in the Open main event in Beaumont, Texas - at ABA's Lone Star nationals. He was laying down the power and about to go for an outsid e-rail from fourth place, when a chain reaction of Jason Rogers, Taylor Wells and Kenny Holston domino'ed right in front of him. From there, Bubba had no where to go except smack in to Action Bike's Kenny (who is also riding a Redline). Thus, he toppled, tumbled and tweaked himself. But don't worry... Bubba didn't kill Kenny. It's not too bad o' break, though. And Bubba's hoping to be ready to race by the Winternationals in Phoenix - 3 weeks from now. We'll see. Regardless, he'll be there to practice and see if he's up for racing. And if all goes as planned, Redline will debut their new BIG RIG at the Winters, as well

AC/REDMAN PRESS RELEASE: AC/REDMAN STRIKES HARD IN TEXAS! With only a handful of their riders attending the Lone Star Nationals in Beaumont, TX this past weekend, Factory AC/Redman had to be near perfect to pull off 200+ scores both days at this race and they did. With Danny Harper ruling 16X, T-Bone Taylor Wells schooling the comp in 14X and Brian Childers talking home what might be this year's first TOP GUN jacket after another triple win on Sunday. And it's only March and he's only 8 -- perhaps the youngest Top Gun recipient ever! Both Huvard sisters -- Abbie and Hannah -- doubled and 11X brother Judson took 2nd both days. These guys are such a potential threat to "The Firm," rumor is P-LITE's just picking up riders so AC/REDMAN won't get them first. But... based on the long list of top riders who have worn a Redman jersey, Mike knows they're even faster fish in the sea. Catch this team if you can, leading the parade lap in Pheonix in their Warpt gear astride the new Redman frames, AC cranks, wheels and parts, Tiogo tires, Answer forks, KMC chains, Marwi Spokes, Arara Rims and Time pedals.
