It was another podium filled weekend for the Nirve pros beginning with AA pro Kyle Bennett. Kyle & teammate Cristian Becerine traveled to the ABA Midwest Nationals in Rockford, IL where Kyle raced super consistently, finishing up with a 3rd in class and a 3rd in Open on Saturday, followed by a 2nd in class on Sunday. Cristian also rode well, making the mains in both class and Open on Saturday before a big get-off and a deeply bruised side and hip kept him out of Sunday's racing. Kyle currently leads the NBL points series and is 3rd in ABA. Cristian is 7th in NBL and 13th in ABA. The next event for these two is the NBL Freedom Nationals in Woodbridge, VA. In Venice Beach, CA, Stephen Murray lit it up in the Core Tour's opening event and took home the bronze in the pro jump competition. While he didn't come away with the win - which went to roommate Nasty - Stephen's riding is exactly where he wants it to be as the season moves into the all-important months of July and August, each featuring a heavy dose of key events. Stephen competes in the Vans Triple Crown this coming weekend in Denver, CO. Thanks to all of Nirve's sponsors and supporters including Vans, Tioga, Marzocchi, 661, Voxom, Deviate, and Shimano.

DOUBLE A MARKETING REPORT:
The NBL completed its spring break race week starting off in Sarasota and finishing up in St. Cloud, Florida this past weekend. With a lot of top name riders missing Phoenix to stay in Florida, the pro racing was hot. With the NBL Pro season coming to its halfway point, the riders are after points towards the overall title. Thomas Allier, Jamie Staff, and Randy Stumpfhauser were all in a battle for the Pro title last season, and once again, all 3 riders were standouts at the NBL nationals. Here is how the Double A Marketing riders finished up in the main events.

Thomas Allier started off the spring break tour in Sarasota with making the AA mains both days, placing a 7th on Saturday and a 4th on Sunday. Then he really turned it up in St. Cloud, as he placed 8th in AA and 1st in Open on Saturday and then a 1st in AA and Open on Sunday. Jamie Staff was not in Sarasota, as he was off in England racing on the velodrome track to try successfully qualify for England's track team to race in the Goodwill Games, an Olympic Qualifier. Jamie flew into St. Cloud and flew around the track as he placed 3rd in AA pro and 4th in Pro Open on Sunday. PROMAX & REDLINE are happy to announce the first-ever "GIVE 'EM A BRAKE PROMO" - THIS weekend in Phoenix, AZ - at the ABA Winternationals / Black Mountain BMX track. According to gOrk, "When ProMax signed on as an official co-sponsor for TEAM REDLINE, we warned you of some big plans ... and this is one of them: the "Give 'Em a Brake" campaign. The first race for this free-for-all is this very weekend, where the first 100 people to stop by the REDLINE RIG on Friday and Saturday will get a free pair of PROMAX brakes put in their bikes -- in exchange for their old crusty, inferior pair. Keep an ear open for more PROMAX "Give 'Em a brake" swaps at future BMX events around the country! Many of the new stock Redline bikes feature the super sharp ProMax CNC'd brakes. They're not only good looking, but will stop you on a dime and give you nine cents change! Check 'em out an your nearest dealer, or on the bikes of REDLINE team riders such as Bubba Harris, Kim Hayashi, Clarence Perry and Jason Carnes. Of course... they'll be using them to stop them after crossing the finishline in first, so they can look back at the competition to see how far they just won by."

OFFICIAL RULES: 1) Redline and Promax will swap out your old pair of brakes for a brand new pair of PROMAX brakes and lever. Your old brakes will become junk and become the property of the Redline garbage can. 2) The brake swap-out will be available to the first 100 people only - line opens at 12noon on Friday, April 5th ~ during practice. 3) We will not swap out new Promax brakes for a current pair of Promax. Offer only valid for "other brands." 4) Certified mechanics will be on hand to ensure that your new Promax brakes work as best as possible.

Stileman's Ultimate Dirt Championships are going to be held on Saturday Night December 8th at the West Gate Trails in West Palm Beach, Florida. West Palm has been known as the home of Cory Nastasio and there have been many locals riders that have kept his legacy going. The West Gate trails have a clay layer and consist of two 6-packs, a big 4 pack, hips, transfers, racer rhythms, and a couple of wall rides with possible coping. For a better look at the trails check out Transit 6. The contest purse will be $300 plus 100% payback. Entry fee is only $20. Practice will start 5 PM and the contest will start at 7PM. The Core Tour Staff has decided to carry on with our scheduled event for this weekend in Santa Monica. We feel that we cannot allow the terrible evil that did this to the U.S. break our spirits and would think that everybody would want us to continue on with the event. We feel that the best thing that we can do is to not let these acts affect our morale and we must push on and get back to the American way of life. We must not let the acts of a few sinister humans break our resolve. We will be riding in Santa Monica and we hope you come. We guarantee it will be an incredible event.

Wildman Todd Lyons has a new signature t-shirt out from Spred Clothing. Funny story about the making of this shirt: The originals were printed upside down ... meaning, Todd's head was upright .... makes sense, right? The printers obviously didn't know that the shirt was a silhouette of Todd doing a backflip. But everything got straightened out, so to speak.

Downhill BMX at the X Games is History! It was a great race and great layout ... and 30 of the world's best BMX racers battled it out for the gold. Although Christophe Leveque had the fastest qualifying run, he ran into trouble and had to settle for a place in the consolation round. It was Brandon Meadows beating out Robbie Miranda in the last straightaway, when Robbie cased a jump, flew to flat ground, and was knocked unconscous. No one likes to see a race end like that and we wish Robbie a speedy recovery as he seems to be the man in this type of race format. We have a few articles in our press releases section, and more news and photos from this event will be coming.

More on the Downhill BMX Event at the 2001 X Games: Should any athlete(s) listed below not be ready to compete by August 1, 2001 for any reason, said athlete(s) will be replaced by one or more of the alternate riders. Should additional alternates be required to replace more than two missing riders, event officials will select additional alternates from riders among the top-10 in this year's ABA and/or NBL senior professional national points series. Every effort possible was taken by event officials to both reward those athletes who excelled in last year's downhill BMX series and to acknowledge other BMX athletes who could not compete last year for whatever reason. In the collective opinion of event organizers, X Games officials and the ESPN network, these athletes represent the absolute cream of the crop for BMX competition of this extreme and unprecedented nature.

Construction of the high-speed downhill BMX track that will play host to this inaugural X Games event begins at Woodward Camp in mid-May. The size, variety and number of hair-raising obstacles on it will exceed even the high standards set by the three breathtaking facilities at last year's series.

BMX Australia Press Releases:

Kamakazi Cleans up Australian Nationals Riding for Redline. Kamakazi took out the Elite Final at the recent Australian National Championships held over Easter at the Happy Valley ( South Australia) complex. With over 1300 riders present for the 2 day event, competition was tough. Prizemoney totalled $11,000 over the 2 days and was almost 50% up on last year. Kamakazi ( that's his full name) hails from Queensland and has been knocking on the door at the top level for several years. Other top rides in the Elite class saw wins to Luke Madill ( Norco),Darren Hawkins(Cassap), John Johnson(GT),Michael(Tiger) Robinson(GT) and Jamie Gray, but it was Kamakazi who showed a strong controlled domination of the Finals to take the prizemoney. Junior Mens Elite went to Shane Aglawatta( Powerlite) whilst Womens Elite went to Tanya Bailey ( Cassap). Australian "Supercoach" Grant White made a lightening return from the US after his recent success at the ABA Lone Star event in Conroe to be part of the BMXA Selection panel for the Australian 2001 World Team. A small number of riders will attend a Train On Squad camp at the world famous Australian Institute of Sport in June, prior to the final squad selection. White and Australian Team Manager Alex Downie will have a tough job to pick from the big pool of talent currently available. The key team riders will receive support funding from the Australian Sports Commission.

2003 Australian Nationals go Indoor. In a joint statement released by Joan Hall, South Australian Minister for Tourism and Graham Arnold, President of BMX Australia, it was announced that the 2003, 2004 and 2005 Australian Nationals will be held in Adelaide This is a result of the signing of a 3 year contract that will see the event being held indoors at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. Negotiations have resulted in the faciltiy being booked and configured to hold a total of 7,300 spectators. Financial support through the Australian Major Events promotional arm of the South Australian Government has underwritten the 3 year deal. The 2003 Nationals will be held only 3 months before the 2003 World Titles which will be at the Burswood Superdome in Perth, Western Australia. Huge numbers of Australian riders are expected to attend the 2003 Nationals as they compete to make the cut with only 600 maximum riders allowed to compete for Australia at the Worlds. Early estimates have indicated that the 3 year contract will see a conservative $15 million dollars being injected by riders, supporters and spectators into the South Australian economy as a result of the Nationals.

ROSTER OF ATHLETES TO COMPETE IN INAUGURAL DOWNHILL BMX EVENT AT 2001 X GAMES
Oklahoma City, OK. Planet Seven Productions is pleased to release the list of athletes qualified for or who have been selected to compete in the inaugural downhill BMX event in this year's ESPN X Games. The format for the downhill BMX race to be held August 11-12, 2001 at Woodward Camp in western Pennsylvania calls for four groups or motos of eight riders each for a field of 32 racers total. Twenty-seven names on the official list of the world's most elite BMX professionals were selected from the group of athletes who made semi-main and/or main events during the three-race downhill BMX series that was televised on ESPN and ESPN2 last year. The final five racers on the list of 32 qualified athletes were handpicked by event officials based on their achievements in other forms of professional BMX, dirt-jumping and/or high-speed downhill bike competition. Below are the 32 athletes that comprise the field of downhill BMX competitors at the 2001 X Games (listed alphabetically): ERIK ABBADESSA, THOMAS ALLIER, KYLE BENNETT, WADE BOOTES, ANDY CONTES, DAVID CULLINAN, ROBERT DEWILDE, JASON DONNELL, ALAN FOSTER, BRIAN FOSTER, CHRISTOPHE LEVEQUE, JUSTIN LOFFREDO, BRIAN LOPES, BRANDON MEADOWS, MARK MELTON, ROBBIE MIRANDA, LANCE MOSELY, KEITH MULLIGAN, JOHN PURSE, ZACK ROEBUCK, KEVIN ROYAL, CHRIS SANCHEZ, BRIAN SCHMITH, JAMIE STAFF, BRIAN STRIEBY, TIMMY STRELECKI, KEVIN TOMKO, TRAVIS TURRESON, STEVE VELTMAN, JOHN WHIPPERMAN, NEAL WOOD, SCOTT YOQUELET. Another weekend in Florida, the NBL hosted it's Easter Classic in Orlando. Jamie Staff continues to ride strong and took Saturday's AA win. On Sunday, it was all about Podge...Warwick Stevenson heated things up and doubled with wins in both AA and Open. Check out Double A Marketing's report at their web site.

There was a lot of racing over the weekend. In Florida, the NBL hosted most of the top pros at its Gator Nationals. Thomas Allier was top dog on Saturday and Randy Stumpfhauser took Sunday's win. Over in ABA territory, the Lone Star Nationals were going on in Texas where Wade Bootes won both days, followed closely by Robert MacPherson and Grant White. John Purse let us know that he made both mains in his return to pro action after some time off due to injuries and he is stoked on his performance.

Nirve Sports announced it has partnered with and will distribute Hollywood Racks. The decision is one of several key moves Nirve is making in order to better serve the IBD. "With the specialty retailer looking to its bicycle suppliers for certain key sales support items, Hollywood is a natural", said Dan Bon, CEO of Nirve Sports. "To one degree or another, bikes will always need to be transported and Hollywood continues to do an excellent job of innovating new products and maintaining a rack line to fit everyone's needs. We're very excited to add them alongside Nirve, Voxom, and Deviate."
Big E and the rest of Powerlite Industries are pretty stoked with how Levi Nordmark has been performing as of late. They are looking forward to great things from the "Friendly Norwegian" this year.
