. . . Go Back to Press Releases (06.18.01) The Mountain Dew National Championships of BMX, the first stop of the Vans Triple Crown of BMX opened Thursday at Rad Canyon Skate Park in Salt Lake City. The recently rainy Salt Lake weather cooperated to provide a beautiful weekend for some amazing performances in the Vert competition. the energy level was high for the Vert contest. With 14 of the top Pro Vert riders, it was anyone's guess who would walk away with a very rich payday. The judging format was different at this event, taking only the riders best run of the 2, instead of combining runs. The best 2 things about the triple crown series is that it will air on NBC TV and it is bringing all divisions of BMX together in one event. John Parker has been learning a lot of new tricks lately and it showed in Salt Lake. With super high airs, John took third with a score 96.50 out of a possible 100 on both runs, showing his consistency. John commented on his runs "well I did a nice regular tailwhip straight into an opposite downside tailwhip in my first run, as well as some very upside down one foot inverts." On my second run, I just went high as bird poop and did a really nicely extended tomahawk style superman" John went on to finish 3rd overall and grab the $3500 cash to go with the awesome looking trophy. Look for John to be riding some high Air shows this upcoming weekend at the Del Mar fairgrounds in Del Mar, CA for the ASA. John's Sponsors include Hot Wheels, GT Bicycles, Oneal, Rush Brakes. Smith eyewear, Primo Components, BMXpros.com, and Stuntmasters.com. Vert Final Results 1 Dave Mirra- Haro Bikes 2 Dennis McCoy- K2 Bikes 3 John Parker- Hot Wheels/GT Copyright 2001.
