. . . Go Back to Press Releases (06.21.01) Salt Lake City, UT: ABA Great Salt Lake Nationals & Vans TRIPLE CROWN of BMX The first VANS TRIPLE CROWN of the year joined together this past weekend with the ABA and the incredible RAD CANYON BMX facility. This meant that along with the usual BMX racing; there was an "X-Games" atmosphere, with a 1/2 pipe vert ramp, street course and dirt jumping competition. The entire event was filmed for NBC Sports; [airdates to be announced]. In the dirt jumping realm, REDLINE's ADAM STRIEBY pulled off some insane variations and wowed the crowd, as always. The only problem was--it was in practice. In qualifying, there were more than just spectator's jaws hitting the ground as Strieby attempted his patented "Whip-Flip"... quite a few riders did too, including Adam once or twice. Afterwards, Adam summed it up--"I think I won practice." On the bright side of his Utah Adventure, Strieby performed in front of a crowd of 25,000 people, for the opening ceremonies of Utah's Summer Games. "It was really impressive," commented Adam, "And with all the things I've seen, it takes a LOT to impress me." Meanwhile, in the racing department, REDLINE's MATT HADAN was flyin' in his motos--winning almost every qualifier he was in. All reports tell us that Matt had the "new Dad" psych, as his daughter "Ava" was born the Tuesday before this race. Just like Stockton's Springnationals, Hadan won Pro Cruiser... only this time, it was a REDLINE 1-2 punch, with JASON CARNES catching the Diesel's draft to nab 2nd place money. If only Redline cosponsored CHRIS HAM had placed 3rd instead of 4th, it would've been a total Redline podium; something no other factory has ever done before. At his current winning streak; Matt Hadan should be sittin' pretty in the Pro Cruiser point standings--and will definitely be a contender for the No.1 title in November. BUBBA HARRIS was also hittin' mach speeds in Utah, making all 3 main events on Saturday. After a crash in 15-16 Open, Bub' duked it out with Brandon Nichols in cruiser, and narrowly missed out on the win. But vengeance was sweet for Bubster on his 20 incher; as he whupped up on his 15x comp to take the victory in class. KIM HAYASHI was haulin' buns also, until a impromptu crash in the rhythm section injured her shoulder. Still bound and determined to pull off a win in cruiser, Kim summoned the power to get in the gate and holeshot her cruiser main, and leading it until the second to last straightaway, when the pain became too unbearable and she had to shut it down. Even then, Kim was still able to coast in for second place. Word has it that she's okay and will be primed and ready for the upcoming World Championships in Ohio and Kentucky. ---------- UP NEXT: JASON CARNE$ and BUBBA HARRIS are hitting the toll-roads of Illinois, for this weekend's MID-WEST NATIONALS in Rockford, IL. MATT HADAN will meet up with them in hopes of continuing his Pro Cruiser streak, and gOrk will be there to get it all on film. An added "bonus attraction" in Rockford, will be the Vintage Chromoly BMX Museum, presented by Redline and put on my roostbmx.com and oldschoolbmx.com . If you're in Rockford--be sure to stop by the Redline pits and take a walk back in time. ADAM STRIEBY is currently stopping off in Las Vegas to ride T.J.Lavin's backyard, and will continue his journey back to So.Cal., for this weekend's Panasonic Shockwave KING of DIRT comp in Venice Beach, CA.
