Go Back to Press Releases (07.03.01) Fountain Valley, CA, July 2, 2001 - USA Cycling has announced the appointment of Nirve Sports' Doug Martin as the Team Manager for the 2001 U.S. Mountain Bike World Championship Team. Martin - the current VP of Marketing at Nirve Sports - was initially contacted by USA Cycling's Managing Director of Athlete Performance, Sean Petty about the position. "Doug Martin, who managed GT's sports marketing and mountain bike program(s) for ten years and was the 1996 Olympic team mountain bike coach, will be Manager of the World Championship Team. Doug's responsibility from now until the completion of the World Championships will be to work with prospective U.S. Team athletes, trade teams and their managers, and USAC staff to insure that the U.S. is best prepared to participate and perform in the World Championships," stated Petty. "Matt Cramer and Keith Darner, both who have worked with the U.S. team at the mountain bike World Championships, will be Assistant Managers of the World Championship team again." Petty continued, "Having Doug to oversee the U.S. Team in Vail helps the U.S. with an already excellent opportunity. His experience and success in the international mountain bike arena is well documented and together, we are looking forward to maximizing our potential in September. I look forward to working with Doug once again." Martin will continue in his current capacity with Nirve while working with USA Cycling and the U.S. World's Team.
