Bikes Belong Coalition Hires Grants Program Administrator

News Release - June 28 2001 - Rich Olken, Executive Director of Bikes Belong Coalition, announced today the hiring of a program administrator to facilitate the Bikes Belong grants program.

"With growing interest and demand for bicycle facilities, we've received an increased number of grant applications," Olken said. "The addition of our new grants program administrator, Tim Baldwin, helps us reach our goal of more people riding more bicycles in more places."

Currently Executive Director of the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition, Baldwin will continue in that role while administering the Bikes Belong grants program. Baldwin noted, "It's a great honor to work at Bikes Belong, and to further the goal of getting more people out there on bikes. I've been riding bikes since before I could walk. My dad used to pedal me around in a baby trailer, and since then I've been hooked."

Baldwin will serve as a point of contact for bicycle advocates, organizations, and agencies interested in the grants program. "An advocate himself, Baldwin speaks the language of bicycling," Olken said. "This is further evidence of the American bicycle industry's commitment to partnering with bicycling proponents across the United States." Bikes Belong Coalition is sponsored by the American bicycle industry, with the goal of putting more people on bikes more often through the implementation of TEA-21.

Bikes Belong Coalition assists local organizations, agencies, and communities in developing bicycle facilities projects that will be funded by TEA-21, the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century. Bikes Belong Coalition will accept applications for grants of up to $10,000 each.
