. . . Go Back to Press Releases (07.03.01) Locations for the REDLINE CUP FINALS (formerly known as the Gold Cup Series) have been announced. REDLINE CUP FINALS EAST............Sept.14-16......Bensalem, Pennsylvania
NEW location! This will be the first year for the new name--the REDLINE CUP Series; and is also the first time in ABA History that a bike manufacturer has tied their name on a Championship Series. Redline's Marketing Director, "gOrk" explains the significance: "It's definitely a big step for the sport of BMX, and it should help attract even more sponsors to the sport. I like to compare Redline and ABA's relationship to that of Winston and NASCAR--with their Winston Cup Series, or to what EA Sports and the AMA have done with the EA Sport Supercross Series." "For over 6 years, Redline has sponsored ABA's Gold Cup Series, and we watched it grow from a regional series in to the second largest, second-most sought-after No.1 title in BMX. Redline has committed their sponsorship to this ABA series, and we're really pleased that we were able to change the title of the event to ours." "What stokes me, is that amazingly, GT never did this in the past, with all of the sponsorship dollars they put in to BMX for two decades. Now that Redline has stepped it up, I'll bet we see more "title" sponsorship of national series, in both the ABA and NBL." For 2001, the REDLINE CUP SERIES involves 64 local multi-point "Qualifier" races, held all around the country. Riders must race at a Redline Cup Qualifier and make their main event, in order to be invited to the Finals. (A rider can qualify at any Redline Cup race, anywhere in the United States, and there are 26 RL Cup Qualifiers left, to be ran during July and August.) Then; ABA has divided the U.S. in to 3 parts, and depending on where the rider lives--he will be invited to compete at one of the three R EDLINE CUP CHAMPIONSHIPS -- be it East, Central or West. By winning the main event at one of these REDLINE CUP Finals, the racer receives a REDLINE CUP NO.1 plate (to be run throughout the next 12 months), a big ol' 1st place trophy, and gets his picture taken; to be printed with the results in BMXer magazine. The distinct yellow-background No.1 plates are awarded to every class, in every age and division. The locations for the first year of the newly-re-named REDLINE CUP Finals are excellent: * For the East, BenSalem has hosted many ABA nationals in the past, and is known for its high speeds and big jumps. * In the middle of the U.S., ABA will be taking the Redline Cup Central to a brand new site; the Lazy E Arena. After being home for the AMA Arenacross Finals, this will be the first time ever non-motorized MX'ers have been inside this large, plush indoor facility. For more on the site--go to http://www.lazye.com/arena/ . [Plus--thanks to the Arenacross track, you can expect an abundance of good dirt, to build an incredibly awesome track!] * And in a timely manner and location for those Interbike attendees, the Western Redline Cup Finals has been slated for one of ABA's newest tracks; in Las Vegas, NV. Racing will take place from Friday thru Sunday, while the annual Interbike tradeshow begins Sunday and goes 'til Wednesday. This will be a great opportunity for early-arriving Bike Dealers to see some of the country's best BMX action! It's almost enough for LasVegas to declare that week "National Bike Week" in Nevada! There are still 26 of the REDLINE CUP qualifiers left. In case you haven't yet qualified to be invited, be sure to hit one of the following REDLINE CUP events: EAST: CENTRAL: WEST: For more information on the REDLINE CUP Series -- go to www.ababmx.com Copyright 2001.
