BMX Australia Australian BMX Team Members
Have Early Hit Out in States
Several of the Australian National BMX Team members have already made
the trip to the US and have featured in a number of events. Top Australian
AA riders Michael Robinson(GT) ,Luke Madill(Norco) and Kamakazi (Redline)
are now getting acclimatised as a lead up to the UCI Worlds at the end
of July . Madill has had 3 wins out of 6 starts whilst Robinson hit town
with a first up win in the Saturday A Pro at South Park. Kamakazi will
be working with the Redline team and getting in some early training. The
US based members of the Australian Team are Warwick Stevenson and Natarsha
Williams. Support for their efforts has come from Australian "Supercoach"
Grant White who is now back in the States with his own racing program.
White will not race at the UCI BMX Worlds, but will be present in Louisville
as part of his committment with the Australian squad
Aussie Ex Pat Riders Get Together in Louisville
A number of Australian Pro riders currently competing in America will
have the chance to get together to ride in the Australian Green and Gold
colours at the World Titles in Louisville. Entries have been received
from US based Travis Turresson,John Smart,Sean Dwight and Canada based
Brendan Arnold. These riders, along with Warwick Stevenson and Natarsha
Williams will bring a huge amount of experience to the overall Australian
Squad. A majority of the Australian riders in Louisville have been brought
up under the skills training regime that is now proving to be a powerhouse
of talent. The closer involvment with the Australian Institute of Sport
has also seen increased results in the critical 12 to 16 year old age
groups. A spokesman for BMX Australia noted that it was unfortunate that
well known Aussie rider Wade Bootes was elsewhere committed, because his
presence would have brought all the talent together under the one roof
at one time.
Wade Bootes.com to Hit the Road in December
BMX Australia has announced its support of the forthcoming Wade Bootes
Tour of Australia in December 2001. Wade's recent rebuilding of a Tour
Bus is now complete, and BMX Australia will be assisting his efforts by
circularising all Australian Clubs with a request for Open race dates
in December, January and February that can be utilised to co-ordinate
a National Coaching Tour. Apart from Wade's previous links in Australia
as a top AA rider, he also acheived the double in 2000 of being Cycling
Australia's BMX Cyclist of the Year and Mountain Bike Cyclist of the Year.
Whilst Wade's Tour will be privately promoted, BMX Australia is happy
to provide support where possible to publicise the exercise. Additional
support will come from JBL Audio and Cahnnel Ten, whilst most BMX media
will provide excellent coverage. Although a well kept secret, BMX Australia
National Coaching Director Grant White is the Trainer for Wade Bootes,
Robert Mcpherson and a host of other top AA riders, and a large part of
Wade's recent race successes can be attributed to the efforts of the Aussie
" Supercoach".
