JOHN PURSE REPORT FROM UCI WORLDS

(Louisville, KY - July 29, 2001) The UCI World Championships were held in Louisville, KY. The event featured over 190 Elite riders and over 70 pros from across the globe vying for the prestigious World Championship Title. With so much on the line the racing was guaranteed to be aggressive. The course offered a big set of doubles in the "Pro Section", straight aways and a rhythm section. Unfortunately, the track conditions were similar to playdough making it slow.

(The set of doubles on the Pro Section was the cause for debate among some riders. Purse said, "I had no problem with the Pro Section. If you were leading the race and made it clear, you were good. If you were in the pack, you had to pray the people in front of you made it. There was no time for errors or recoveries".

(The Jackal finished 2nd, 2nd and 1st in the motos. He took "4th in the 1/16 qualifier, and then a bad start due to holes in the track in the 1/8 qualifier from lane 8 made it tough with drama in the "Pro Section" and kept me back in the pack and ended up 6th, but they only take 4. It was a great weekend for me because the UCI Worlds Titles are my favorite races and I look forward to the 2002 UCI Worlds in Paulinia, Brazil and then 2003 in Perth, Australia".

(The next event on the schedule will be the ESPN X-Games in Woodward, PA on August 12. This event will be featured on ESPN.
