JOHN PURSE Report from X Games

(Woodward, PA - August 13, 2001) Downhill BMX thrilled spectators at the ESPN X-Games in Woodward, PA. In an invitation only format, the event was contested by 32 of the world's hottest BMX pros. The event was described as "off the hook, one of the best events ever with an all downhill course and 35 foot jumps, and tons of enthusiastic spectators ringing cow bells".

Before the racing heated up, John Purse was one of 8 athletes selected to be filmed in an IMAX Feature Presentation documenting the ESPN X-Games and Downhill BMX. This film will be released in IMAX theaters worldwide in the Spring of 2002 and boasts a $ 5,000,000 budget. The film used IMAX cameras and will feature all of the action up close with a 30 foot version of John Purse! John has been invited to fly out to LA for some additional filming to add a "Matrix" effect to the film.

Now for the racing! The Jackal was pumped and hole shotted to take 1st in his first moto! The top four from each moto progressed to the semi's. In the semi's, Purse took 3rd advancing to the main event. In the main event, Purse started in the 5th lane, which wasn't the optimum lane choice. As the Jackal battled it out down the course, he was pushed out in a turn and crashed hard. After regaining his bearings, Purse went on to finish 7th overall in the ESPN X-Games Downhill BMX. This outstanding performance qualified Purse for the 2002 ESPN X-Games.

The ESPN X-Games will be on ESPN and the ABC Wide World of Sports this Sunday, August 19, at 1 pm est.

Purse will be competing in the NORBA event in Mt. Snow, VT this weekend in the Mountain Cross and Dual Slalom events, which will be televised on OLN.
